Inspection: prepare better questions

An inspection describes observable conditions at a point in time. It is not a warranty and cannot reveal every concealed component.

Before hiring

Review training, relevant experience, liability coverage, the agreement and report format. Ask what is included, excluded and likely to require a specialist. Verify current requirements with the relevant Quebec authorities and professional sources.

During the inspection

Record where each observation appears and ask the inspector to distinguish routine upkeep, monitoring, further investigation and urgent safety concerns. A stain does not establish its cause, and working equipment does not guarantee remaining service life.

After the report

Read the complete report. Sort issues by safety, water, function, maintenance and missing information. Obtain specialized diagnoses and cost estimates from qualified independent professionals. Have transaction conditions and deadlines explained by authorized advisors.
